I am a skincare-obsessed person, I literally have tried thousands of brands and products to maintain my complexion to be as flawless as possible. My skin is not exactly the most well-behaved skin type. It is combination, sensitive, and acne-prone skin and the worst is I don't see troubles (breakouts) coming every time. I just pops up whenever it feels like it. I had times when my skin was just so awfully full of acnes, scars, and redness. And at those difficult moment, my confidence would shrink like a balloon just being pierced. PHEW!:(
STEP ONE is CLEANSE
I believe that our skin are like plants and flowers, which need to be nourished and taken care of. Flawless (although mine is not) skin takes time and effort. Some people might be luckier than others being born with good gene skin but throughout time, effort really counts and makes major difference in the long term.
STEP ONE is CLEANSE
Cleansing our face is very important. It removes the dirt, oil, germs, greasiness on our skin that might cause acnes, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, any impurities basically. I usually wash my face 2-3 times a day depending on my activities and schedules. The MUST is to wash our face in the morning and at night.
On make-up free day, I would use my Nuxe Micellar Cleansing Water with cotton pad, gently swipe my whole face to remove the oil on the upper layer of my face. It consists of rose petals to gently clean and moisturise skin at the same time.
smells like rose and super gentle on skin. |
If I wear make up, it would require an extra step to remove the make up that I wear whole day long. I use Innisfree Bija Trouble Cleansing Gel to melt away all the face make up. It is similar with cleansing oil, gently massage face for 2-3 minutes, then add some water to emulsify the gel and rinse face. I prefer gel texture more than oil because most cleansing oil does break my skin out while this doesn't. Currently using my 4th bottle now and doesn't plan to switch to other make-up remover in any mean time.
For eyes, I would use my Johnson Baby Oil in Aloe Vera. Baby oil is so affordable and just as effective as any eye make-up remover. So I don't see why not? Pour some in cotton pad, press gently and wait for 1- 2 minutes, wipe gently and there you go. As simple as that.

After removing make-up, we still need to wash our face with face wash. Because chance is our face is still not fully clean and that might cause break out. At night I usually use my GlamGlow Supercleanse Daily Clearing Cleanser, a mud to foam cleanser that effectively dissolves oil, dirt, even light make-up. Although it is expensive, but this huge bottle has lasted for around 6-7 months on me. Spread the mud (around 2 pumps) to whole face with dry palms, massage it for around 1 minute, then add more water until it turns to foam, massage gently for 3-5 minutes, and rinse. I love to use this cleanser at night time, it's so relaxing and I think my skin loves it too!
STEP TWO is TONE
Toner is absolutely needed for oily skin, it will help to cleanse our deeper layer of skin so all products we apply next could be absorbed better. My holy grail toner is KIELHS Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion. This is my absolute favourite and I could not LIVE without this stuff. There are times I ran out of it and I didn't use it for like 2 weeks. My face started to break out gradually from my forehead to chin to cheek. And I was wondering for awhile what caused the break out to happen. And I sunddely realised that it was this toner. My break out stopped immediately after I continued to use it. This toner is written and recommended by KIELHS ' staffs only for oily skin. But let me tell u, it works wonder for my combination and acne-prone skin. I am on my 10th bottles now and that's enough to prove how good it is.

STEP THREE is REPAIR
Our cells repair our skin more effectively when we sleep, therefore any skincare products to improve evenness, tone, and texture are mostly recommended to be used at night. I see a major improvement on my skin since after I use Renew Rose Hip Oil, an organic skincare from Australia. My acne scars are gradually going away after one month usage! And my skin becomes so soft and smooth because it also repairs damaged skin cell. Although it is oil base, it doesn't break me out at all. I also have tried it on my boyfie's skin and he stopped getting new pimples since then. But for you who are interested better get prepared for the funny and heavy smell, you'll get use to it.
STEP FOUR is MOISTURISE
Any type of skin, including oily skin needs moisture to hydrate the skin to be plumped, supple, and youthful. Dehydrated skin (flaky, dry, redness, and peeled) is NOT SEXY! Another purpose of moisturiser is to lock all the serums or oils we have used earlier so they can be absorbed into deeper skin layer. Two of my favourite moisturisers of all time are Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel and KIELHS' ULTRA FACIAL MOISTURISER. I would use the Clinique one when my skin is on the oilier condition because it is gel type, and KIELHS when it is on the drier side.
STEP 5 is TREATMENT
By treatment, what I mean is eyes and acnes. I like to put these two the last. I guess because they are the littlest amount we use compared to whole-face products. My holy-grail acne treatment cream is Neutrogena On-The-Spot Treatment, I have used this Benzoyl Peroxide treatment cream for 5 years. And I never could find anything like it. It's so gentle on my skin, doesn't make my skin dry or flaky or red the next morning. Usually after 2 -3 days of applications, my acnes will shrink. It is truly a very impressive + affordable product!
My eyes has light dark circles, nothing's major but still quite concerning. I am using Skin-Peptoxyl Intelligent Dark Circle Eraser, which contains Algae, Rosemary, Green Tea to reduce dark circles around eye areas and also to boost collagen production. What I like about it is the lightweight and non-sticky texture, making it ideal to be used day and night.
